In the laptop market, Dell and Apple are the two aggressive competitors for ultra thin laptops. Though Dell still has higher market share than Apple in the total PC market, when it comes to the design and interface, Apple is always the winner by far amount. But Dell’s new ultra thin laptop named Dell Adamo XPS may change the game.

Though Adamo XPS had been in the rumor chamber of blogosphere for a couple of months, Dell has finally revealed the product, but with out a price tag!!

Here is the feature of the Dell Adamo from its official site :

STYLE
Thinnest laptop in the world at 9.99mm¹
13.4-inch widescreen LED HD display
Elegantly matched external peripherals

PERFORMANCE
1.4GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo ULV processor – delivering ultra-low-voltage mobile performance
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64-bit
4GB 800MHz DDR3 dual-channel memory²
Intel ® Ultimate-N WiFi Link 5300(802.11a/g/n) Half Mini card and Dell ™ Bluetooth® 2.1 adapter
Up to 5 hours and 17 minutes with an optional extended battery life on a full charge³

The design of Dell Adamo looks very impressive with great thought given to human ergonomics. Here are some of the images :

You can clearly see the design aspect of the laptop. The rising of the keyboard has two great purpose, one is for the hand positioning and the other is for the heat flow.

Now lets look at Mac Book Air:

Size and weight
Height:
0.16-0.76 inch (0.4-1.94 cm)
Width:
12.8 inches (32.5 cm)
Depth:
8.94 inches (22.7 cm)
Weight:
3.0 pounds (1.36 kg)1

Processor and memory
1.86GHz or 2.13GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 6MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed
1066MHz frontside bus
2GB of 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM onboard

So who do you think will win the race? Personally, though both of them have equal strength over the design and ergonomic. What matters eventually is the inside of the laptop and that is its operating system. And I am sure that Dell Adamo will be running Windows 7 and not Mac’s Leopard.

I remember watching one of the video of Steve Job’s interview and what he told was quite interesting. He told that, ” Most of people don’t get it. Its not the hardware, but the software interface that matters.” And I would agree with that, I mean, no matter how great your hardware is, if it runs a software which is hard to work out with, it makes no sense. I am not trying to be bias here, but thats the truth of it. On the other hand, Dell’s Adamo XPS looks a great laptop, though won’t be affording it, it will be great to see how it works in Market. Ultimately innovation matters.

Dell adamo xps is the same price as macbook air for the base model. they r direct competitors and i wud say dell adamo is the better one. wen ur gna choose between these laptops, u r not looking for specs. if u were looking for specs, u wudnt buy a dell adamo nor mac air. also (interestingly) u forgot to compare a few other specs like ports such as usb which is the weakest point of macbook air. and as far as operating systems r concerned, which wud u rather hv? one which might just look prettier but really doesnt offer much more. or the one which is compatible with just about every computer in the world. both os hv multitouch. and if u think mac os x is easier to use than windows 7 think again. my school has macs and everyone in the art department hates them. y? cos wat functionality do they offer which u cant get on a regular pc? both os support photoshop and other programs. also they dont find it easier to use and they crash more than the pcs. u can also look on google. type in mac problems and u get 146k results, type in pc problems and u get 68.1k. idk about u but for a company which only has about 5% marketshare, thats a lot more problems. u r clearly biased. i dont think u hv used windows 7 at all. my grandmother who is 78 says its easier to use than mac os x so stop making up bs u mac fanboy and deal with the fact that other companies can make better laptops. u dont c me arguing that zune is better than ipod (i hv an ipod touch) so y do u insist on arguing that other companies make worse laptops, just cos steve jobs said the os is the most important factor?

Mac boys will always be mac boys. If you like the OS, fine that may be a legit reason (preference) to get a mac. PC offers more choices at generally better prices. You can get a high end ultra light weight as shown here, you can get a high end desktop replacement like an Alienware, you an get a cheap low powered netbook, or you can get a cheap $300 regular notebook computer…. oh and they come in all colors. If the limited mac choices fits what you need, you like the OS, and like to be in the top tier for pricing… the mac is for you.
