Google Mail, also popularly know as Gmail, suppressed AOL mail, one of the oldest email provider to become the 3 most visited email website. According to a research conducted by ComScore,Gmail, first released in April 2004, logged 37 million unique monthly users in July, compared with AOL’s 36.4 million. However, the market leader in this segment is Yahoo Mail with 106.1 million unique monthly visitors and Windows Live Hotmail with 47.1 million monthly users coming in third.

The research also shows that Google is growing at a rate of 46 percent from the same period last year, while Windows Live Hotmail grew to 47.1 million monthly users, up 3 percent from the 45.8 million comScore tracked in July 2008. Considering the same growth rate, Gmail should topple Windows Live Hotmail from its second position in the next 7-8 months. However it will still take Google sometime to get to the number one position, since Yahoo mail is growing at a steady rate of 22%.
Gmail recently came out of its beta status, with the launch of its “back to beta” lab feature. Google in many ways changed the way we thought of email, from its unlimited mailbox capacity to its web chat feature (Both video and voice). Data from Compete shows Google only gaining in the past few months, with Windows Live Hotmail losing visitors month,
Looks like Microsoft and Yahoo need to have another agreement to keep Google away, MicroHoo Mail? What’s your take on it?

I pay $20 a year for Yahoo Mail Plus. It gets rid of the ads and, most importantly – and well worth the $20 – it has “Address Guard” – the ability to create on-the-fly email addresses that are delivered to your primary Yahoo Mail account. These addresses can be deleted if you start getting spam at the address. This is a great feature that I don’t think anyone else offers.
