Are you worried of ugly content which appear at the front page of google search result for your business or profile. For example, you search your business and you get an embarrassing content. How on earth would you avoid such mishaps? Well Google Webmaster trends analyst Susan Moskwa in a blog post writes that its better people donot complain google for that, as google doesn’t own internet. Further , recent study has shown that google only owns 6% of the traffic. So, she goes on to say that if you are disturbed by such content than it is better to complain the owner of the content as google only presents them as it is.
The news goes on to comment on what Moskwa has written on her blog:
Nonetheless, Moskwa is sympathetic to those saddled with unflattering search results, having had personal experience being linked to an embarrassing picture from college. The first step in managing one’s online reputation, she insists, is to “think twice before putting your personal information online.”

But this suggestion is very contradictory to the way google actually works. If people start sharing less information then google’s system will fail because most of google’s innovation comes from understanding the public’s activity and information. As a result she immediately changes her statement to add that you can reduce such content by providing better and more useful content yourself. This way it will reduce the visibility of the ugly content. Further, she encourages her reader to add Google profile instead as a way of validating the information.
Bottom line, donot publish personal information but if you do use google profile. Is google avoiding the responsibilty of providing fair and proper search result. Has the internet been so polluted with bad mouth marketing and hyped content that it has become impossible for even google to handle it. Just look at Digg and TweetMeme, do you think their result or content is better than that of Google? The competition for providing a better content to the internet user is really getting difficult day by day with so many social bookmark and other sites flourishing.
