In an attempt to intensify the e-reader market, Amazon introduced its Kindle to more than 100 countries including China and most of Europe. They also slashed the prices for sale in U.S. by 13 percent from the previous $299. So while Kindle will be sold for $259 in U.S., in other countries it will be priced at $279.

“For the first time ever, Kindle is available for sale outside the US,” Amazon founder Jeff Bezos told AFP as he provided a glimpse of the international model in Cupertino, California.

“Now, Kindle will work in a hundred countries. With Kindle you can be in France and get an English-language book within 60 seconds.”

According to him, since its launch Kindle has grown to become the highest selling product at Amazon.

International version would start shipping from Oct 19th only though the online orders can be placed for the international version now. e-readers are reckoned as one of the next BIG THING and with this move, Amazon is sure to win battles against its rival this holiday season.
