Mashable is in news for all the good reasons. It is one of the fastest growing Technical Blogs globally, which is believed to have replaced TechCrunch to become the World Top Technical Blog.
Let us first analyze the growth and performance of both of these Tech Blog Titans. Here is the past one month performance from Alexa.

Mashable seems to have beat TechCrunch in the Alexa Traffic Rank marginally. TechCrunch seems to be threatened, and is fighting hard to retain its position.
According to Compete.com, Mashable had more Unique Visitors than TechCrunch in May and June.
Mashable had 1.90M Unique Visitors in May and 2.10M in June; while TechCrunch had 1.86M in May and 2.03M in June. Remember Compete.com gives only the US Traffic numbers.
Mashable has higher Compete Rank than TechCrunch for these two months.
Where Mashable does not perform good is in the number of no. of visits and pageviews per user.
According to Alexa, Mashable has average pageviews per user of 1.8 while TechCrunch has 2.1. The number of visits per month too gives TechCrunch a good lead. Fig from Compete.com below.

Mashable has total visits of 5.4M against the TechCrunch’s 9.5M in June. Here is the data for other months.
Feb : Mashable (3.6M); TechCrunch (7.7M)
Mar : Mashable (4.4M); TechCrunch (9.1M)
Apr : Mashable (4.2M); TechCrunch (8.7M)
May : Mashable (4.8M); TechCrunch (8.6M)
This data denies Mashable to be the king.
Now let us go to other statistics besides the traffic.
Google Indexed Pages and Google Page Rank
Mashable has Google Page Rank of 7, while TechCrunch has 8. The number of Google Indexed Pages for Mashable and TechCruch stands at 258k and 124k respectively.
Inbound Links
TechCrunch has inbound links of 5.92M while Mashable has 3.05M only.
Technorati Blog Rank
Technorati has gone the TechCrunch way. TechCrunch ranks 2 while Mashable is close at 3 in Technorati Blog Ranking.
Digg and Delicious
There are 8,071 articles dugg so far from TechCrunch while 6,906 from Mashable. Ironically from both of these pioneer blogs, only 3 articles each have made it to the front page of Digg.com.
In Delicious bookmarking, TechCrunch leads Mashable by 23,587 to 17,196 bookmarks.
Ending Thoughts
It is really hard to call one king over the other at this point of time. TechCrunch seems to be leading in most indices so far but its position is really threatened by Mr Cashmore and Team at Mashable. Lets see who takes the crown.
