Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are major applications of Microsoft which have revolutionized the whole of business culture. They have turned out to be the basic need of everyone. If you want to prepare a document, it’s Word; if you want to create a spreadsheet, it’s Excel; and if you want to create slides then you need PowerPoint. They are the common vocabulary of any company. But the rise of opensource softwares like OpenOffice and Google Docs seemed to have threatened the market share of Microsoft.
Recent survey done by Mashable Poll have shown that besides popularity of Google Docs, Microsoft still turns out to be the best choice. Below is the chart which shows the result, the data has been taken from the Mashable.
We can see that Microsoft Office wins with a large margin. The reasons are that Google Docs and other Open Softwares still have not reached to the state which Microsoft Office have. What people need is a continuous update and support of the application, which Google doesn’t seems to have. Remember that Office is the major business of Microsoft and it has many support centers and educational resources distributed in the market. Google Docs is still in its infancy and will take a long time before it gets accepted in the mainstream office use.
