I use Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome for internet browsing. These browser names are in the order of my uses. Yesterday I decided to reinstall Firefox since I was having some problems with the new version. Once I uninstalled it, I was requested to participate to the survey” why I want to uninstall Firefox?” I participated there and gave answer to a few questions. Result of poll was interesting, so I decided to share it with you.

There were two parts of the survey: why you installed Firefox? And why you want to uninstall it?

Firefox has given summary of the “why uninstalling?” it but they didn’t give summary of “why you installed it?” polling. They gave poll data free download. I downloaded data and analyzed it. Results are as follow:

No of people participated: 37836

Filtered Record: 37832

installing mozilla

The above graph shows that, 56% of Firefox users love it and 19% are using it as an additional web browser. It means total 65% of Firefox users are real Firefox users and it’s a very high number. I have created text cloud of the other reasons for which people are installing it  and that can be viewed below:

(Created by wordle.net)

The above text cloud shows that most of the new installations are from previous users for upgradation. Few people like Firefox 2.0(FF2.0) some like Firefox 3.0 (FF3.0), some like it, some hate it some say good some say bad and so on.

On the other hand, very huge number of people are uninstalling it also. The reasons why people are uninstalling it are different. The chart below describes the group of people having different reasons:

uninstalling

A very high number of people (15% of total poll) are facing problem that many page can’t render properly in Firefox. Most common problems faced due to this are:

· Some flash components and some websites are not opening correctly.

· Some language like Chinese code supports badly

· Crashes with Gmail and others

· Old version was better than the new version and so on.

According to the poll, performance, security, plug-ins are the most common problems people have. I have copied the exact comment of users from data taken from the poll:

· Things that didn’t work showed up immediately, problems with PDFs, using video/audio. If there is customization or specific add-ons that need to be installed as soon as Firefox is launched, this should be stated.

· Clicking older addresses in the address bar would jam the whole computer in selected web pages… a problem that appeared only after I loaded 3.0 version.

· Version 3 didn’t work very well. Many links didn’t work, but they worked in IE. Many other general internet problems after it was installed. I am running Windows Xp SP2 which is kept up-to-date with all the latest baggage from MS.

· Firefox has recently become unstable, keeps crashing randomly. Wouldn’t print documents.

· Have installed and uninstalled so many times that although I prefer your browser it is unusable with other applications despite their special instructions for use with Mozilla

· It’s not the Firefox’s fault, just the Microsoft too strong.

· Before releasing version, be certain that as few issues/problems exist; because ever since versions 3.x have been released, I have continually noticed issues and problems mounting more and more until finally the browser would not even open a few hours after installing 3.07

The above poll from Firefox shows that a very high number of people are uninstalling Firefox 3.0. Being a huge fan of Firefox, I would request Mozilla to take up this soon and do something about these problems lest they lose their loyal users.
