Wikipedia to get better

We all have sometime or the other landed on Wikipedia during our “Web Search“, and more often then not got our dose of information, knowledge and much more from this great site. So, for all you Wikipedia fans, there is good news. Firstly Wikipedia is going to put in more discipline with new restrictions on the editing of articles. The latest changes come as Wikipedia tries to balance a need for credibility and a desire for openness. Secondly, Wikipedia has been committed a sum of $2 million,by the philanthropic investment group started byeBay founder Pierre Omidyar.

The more secure editing process comes in light of the most recent embarrassments, Democratic Sens.Robert ByrdNohat-logo-nowords-bgwhite-200pxand Edward Kennedy were prematurely declared dead by rogue editors. According to the latest changes, anyone can still edit entries, the site is testing pages that won’t register changes until they are approved by an experienced Wikipedia editor. Wikipedia understands that this could be a kill, discouraging legitimate editing if restrictions on changes or additions become too burdensome, keeping articles from getting better or keeping up with events. Hence, it’s keeping the criteria to become “Experienced Author” low.

For me Wikipedia is already the source of most of my information, about places, people, events and personally welcome these changes. However, I can understand a feel people complaining about the difficulty this might cause, but I guess a small amount of restriction wouldn’t hurt.  Besides, with more funding, Wikipedia is bound to improve.
