I am excited by this news. Thanks Microsoft. I am eagerly waiting to see the much talked OS from Microsoft, Windows 7. Computer World has a report saying, MS has confirmed the releaase of trial version of Windows 7 for 4 months for free.
I was very happy to use Windows 98 and Windows XP while I got the first hand experience in 98 and 2001. I was excited more by Windows Vista, but with a difference. Vista’s excitement was shortlived. I like Xp to Vista. Given a chance, I will downgrade my windows Vista to Windows XP anytime. MS is not even giving me that chance, poor me
But now, I have a choice. Microsoft has suddenly become customer centric and it is bringing trial version of Windows 7. I am loving this news for 2 reasons — a) I will get chance to like it before I buy it ( 4 months is enough to make a good decision); b) this culture might follow in other MS products as well.
The Happy Folks at New York Times, write about the product activation:
Microsoft has confirmed that PC users can initiate a reset command up to three times, thus adding an additional 90 days to the stock 30-day grace period for activating the product with Microsoft. The extension is accomplished by calling up the “rearm” switch that will reset the countdown timer back to 30 days. Here’s how it’s done:
1. Start the command line by clicking Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt (Run As Administrator) – or for a shortcut, hit the Windows Key + R and type “cmd”.
2. At the command line, enter in “slmgr –rearm” without the quotations.
3. Restart Windows 7.
So now, what are you waiting for. Download Windows 7 and try it. It gives one month trial period, and that can be extended 90 days more. Read this story at Windows Secret for details.
Microsoft is changing, and I am loving it.
