Alexa, Web Information Company from Amazon, has great data about the Websites. I analyzed the data it has for various Search Engines, and compared against each other.
The most stunning finding is that, only 27.66% of Web Users use Search Engines. This makes me think about an article I read long back on whether Coke and Pepsi were major rivals in India. The article had shown that Coke and Pepsi together constitute of around 10% of all Cold Drinks drunk in India and other 90% is the Nibu Pani (Local Lime Water), Chas (Butter Milk), fruit juices, Milk Shakes, Fruit Lassies (Fruit + Curd Drink) etc.
Search Market seems to be the same. If anyone can come and take 20% of the remaining internet users, it can become No 1 surpassing Google. Google has the highest reach, and it stands at around 17%. Table below has more information.

One of the important finding here is the small Market Share of Yahoo Search. It stands at around 9.7% slightly ahead of Bing (Microsoft’s Search Engine) and Baidu (Chinese Search Engine Giant). Ask.com too seems to be having good market share, which stand at 6.3%.
When I took Companies from three major Markets for Internet Users — United States, China and India, and studied against each other; the result is here.

Companies from US, led by Google, leads with almost 90% Market Share and China takes another 10%. India trails at around 0.20% with Guruji.com leading the fight at 0.18% share.
Ending Note
Search seems to be raw market and there are enough areas for innovation. Google has dominated Search, but it too has reached less than one fifth of the Internet Users. This gives room for more research, innovation and work in this space.
From the earlier Market Share report I had read, this is significant drop in the share for Yahoo Search and rise for Bing, Baidu and Ask. This brings more problems at the Yahoo HQ!
US remains the home for the major companies, and there isn’t any threat to its dominance. At least not in the near future.
