The new age of media distribution is no doubt You-Tube. Only recently, millions of people logged on to YouTube to watch U2 live concert, the first of its kind. Many main stream media has their own You-Tube channel, this shows how important online video streaming has become. Even the CEO of Google, also the owner of YouTube have mentioned in many of his speeches that You-Tube is gaining ground not only in views and visits but also in revenue end.
The increase in the amount of views it is now able to monetise has grown due a rise in the number of content owners, such as ITV, opting to use YouTube’s ‘content ID’ system.
Content ID is a content management system which protects the user’s content from being used illegally. This give the content provider a better opportunity to share their content and be sure that no copyright rules are violated.
YouTube has created an advanced set of copyright policies and content management tools to give rights holders control of their content. YouTube provides content management solutions for rights holders of all sizes across the world, and provides tools to cater to the specific needs of various rights owners.
Commercial partnerships
Use of YouTube’s copyright tools is free, and does not require any commercial partnership with YouTube. Content partners who would like to monetize their content can apply to join ourYouTube Partner Program.

Many big players in Youtube are opting for the content ID system. This may be the beginning of making YouTube the main stream media.
It is free of charge and being used by 1,000 content partners globally, including major brands such as Electronic Arts, Sony BMG and most recently Tiger Aspect, the creators of Mr Bean programming. It has played a major role in content holders regaining control of the unauthorised use of their material on the major video site and reducing the amount of legal actions are brought against YouTube for copyright infringements.

This new system will allow the content provider to hold all the rights and distribute its own Advertisement or instead, they can allow Google to add ads and distribute the revenue. This works in the benefit of content provider.
Its been argued in that its difficult to predict the revenue numbers for YouTube as a cost of running live stream is not known. But the fact that YouTube has been attracting lots of high quality content is a great opportunity for advertisers.
Enders Analysis’s head of Internet Ian Maude, predicts that the site will generate $400m (£243m) by the end of this year, which is double his estimates of 2008 turnover. This figure includes revenues generated by both video and display advertising, as well as Google AdSense.
Analysis
There are lots of hardware being developed to cater to the needs of consuming video content. This also has increased a lot of load on the internet network provider. For You-Tube to really rise up all these systems need to be upgraded and also the telecom industry needs to look at it seriously. Rise of advanced phones like iPhone and Driod has already increased consumer’s expectation.
More innovations in hardware and network reliability will certainly boost the market of online video consumption. I see a future where you could reach home, get the remote and click and its not any TV channel but Youtube
